The Fulbright Foreign Student Program lets graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad study and do research in the United States. It is run in each country by a Fulbright Commission or the US Embassy.

What it covers

Fulbright grants generally fund tuition, a return airfare, a living stipend and health insurance. The exact package depends on your country and the type of grant.

Who can apply

Eligibility and selection are set separately in each country. Common requirements include:

  • Citizenship of the country where you apply
  • A completed bachelor's degree
  • Strong English language skills
  • Ability to return home after the grant ends

How to apply

Find the Fulbright page for your country through the official Fulbright foreign student website. It lists the local deadline, the documents needed and whether you apply through a Fulbright Commission or the US Embassy.

Documents you'll need

Requirements vary by country but usually include:

  • Online application
  • Study or research objectives essay
  • Personal statement
  • Transcripts
